Research find that most Britons are ignorant about the Corporate Tax where there is an allotment that goes to the upkeep of the royal family. This is not taught in schools in Britain. My guess is they don't want Britons to know their government is essentially supporting/contributing to the royal family as been for decades since monarchy was "dethroned." In exchange for taking away political power from the royal family, the members of the royal family would remain active and perhaps with some authority in some aspects of government in Britain, so yes, you see them "working" in governmental roles. The queen does seem to "run" by acting as a "head of...." but in reality, she has almost no authority and is more of a consultant. The only place where the queen hold the true reign of power is in her own family where traditions are strictly observed and held dear by the Britons. I believe once Queen Elizabeth passes, Charles might attempt to continue with the similar traditions held by his mother but I am doubtful Prince William will. I believe William will be the one who will take British monarchy into obscurity and become more like other royals in other countries so he and Kate and their children would finally be free from constant surveillance and fascination.

And yes, as citizens of Britain, the royal family still pay taxes like everyone else. Surprisingly, they are not exempt from taxes, however, the outgoing of royal tax payment far underweigh the incoming from the Corporate tax.
